I May Need Seconds...

Mr. Blue Jay sure was a cheerful sight the other day!

Happy Friday :) Now that we're officially into February, how are your New Year's resolutions coming along? I played it safe and didn't make any to break! There are however, some goals which seem to travel with me from year to year: getting in shape and losing that proverbial last 5-10 pounds.

In my experience, portion control is key to successful weight loss. In fact, when we were together this past fall, my mom & I each bought a plate we occasionally use to fool discipline ourselves to eat less:

The smaller sections barely hold 1 cupcake apiece,
but thankfully we have the larger one for chocolate eclairs, haha!
All kidding aside, it's an effective tool.

Now how's this for portion control!!

The detail in these adorable creations is incredible!

Here's a link to more of artist Shay Aaron's work.

Bon appétit!

Did you know that a cookie is a sometime food?

Can't go without saying a big thank you to Kay from Georgia Girl with an English Heart for surprising me with a Liebster award, which means dearest or beloved. I'm honoured and have set it up in the Trophy Room at the very bottom of my page. Thanks again, Kay :)

  2. I love those teeny tiny dolls foods! I wonder where you got those plates....
Yes, portion control is important. Also not snacking in the evenings (which is my downfall).

    1. Hi Jenny, I believe we stumbled across them in a second-hand store - that's basically where we spend all our time when we're together, lol! Snacking is a big part of the problem for most of us.

  4. I didn't make any resolutions this year, either; I decided I'll figure it out as I go along. Those miniature food displays are so darn cute! I tell you, some people are so talented. That plate is a great idea for portion control - unless you fill it up twice :)

Congratulations on your award. I received it as well, and I'm not sure where I can pass it on to. Everyone has it already! I'm considering making up a new one for my favourite bloggers. I'll have to give it some thought.

Love the cookie video! I was a huge fan of Sesame Street when I was a kid, and I still think it's one of the coolest programs for kids.

    2. You are way ahead of me! I have the 'idea' of doing it, but having trouble choosing a name for it. But I'm working on it. I will eventually present one!

  9. Those miniatures are adorable! I just came over for my first visit, from Kay's blog, who gave us both an award. I'm so glad I did. I'm trying to discipline myself to eat smaller portions too...but those little tiny ones are just a tad TOO small for me! I'd love to collect a few of them though, I do love miniatures!

  10. Ha ha ha I'm laughing about how your larger plate holding the eclairs!
It's a good thing you've got that plate!

I did not make any resolutions or goals officially but I have decided that I'm not to go back for seconds. What I've noticed is that I feel better overall. Way less stuff and all that. It's tough to keep at it, but the reward of feeling lighter-in belly and spirit-keeps me from taking another serving.

    1. Hahaha, Yes, each plate has it's uses!!

I know what you mean - a little discipline (like not taking seconds) makes such a difference. I love that you not only feel lighter in belly, but also spirit :)

  11. Dear Jane,
That artist's work is amazing but I must tell you, I LOVE your photo of the blue jay! I LOVE BIRDS and they are SO DIFFICULT to take good photos of (well, they do fly quickly, don't they?)
You have several awards! Good for you! Now, tell me how do you get it on the side or bottom of your blog, I don't know how to put mine on there!
And I am so goofy, I misspelled "Liebster" in my post, and the nice Librarian from Germany had to correct me! :-)

  12. Hi Kay, He was originally on a tree branch very close to the window - and so gorgeous - but by the time I grabbed my camera, which was just on the kitchen counter, he'd moved to a tree to the back of the yard.

If you go into 'design,' and choose 'add a gadget', you can then upload any pic from your system, save it, and then just move it to wherever you want, either along the sidebar or way down at the bottom. Try it out and if it's not right, then just 'grab' it with your mouse and reposition it. If I can get the hang of it, anyone can!! Let me know if you still have problems and I'll hopefully be able to walk you through it.

  14. Congratulation on your recent awards Jane. You do an amazing blog!

Lovely Blue Jay in your tree. I enjoy seeing and listening to all birds. They seem to make me feel happy when they are about.

I listened to the Cookie Monster clip and it did bring back nice memories of listening to Sesame Street with my children when they were young.

I'm waiting for tomorrows miniatures, I'm sure they will surprise us all.

That's it, we should all stick to miniature cookies on miniature plates!
