Happy Leap Day!

The night before last we watched the movie Rain Man. It's hard to believe it was released in 1988; and that's probably when I'd last seen it. It caused me to reflect, at length, on what an amazing instrument the human brain is - if only we knew how to tap it's full potential.

I chose the image of a wolf for today's post because I thought I'd share a dream I had this past weekend, which perfectly illustrates the beauty of the mind and dream language. For me, the wolf symbolizes that mysterious world we enter every night.

In my dream I'm in a body of water that I know is very familiar to me - I sense I've been here many times before. The water around me is swirling and churning, and I can't see beneath the surface. I put my arm in up to my shoulder and feel around for something. Time passes and with it a great sense of frustration begins to grow; I know that whatever it is I'm looking for IS there, but for some reason, I can't grasp it...

  1. My sister practically sleeps with one of those Dream Dictionary books under her pillow! I can rarely remember any of my dreams. Love the photo of the leaping wolf.

    1. Sulky, I believe that if you plant the seed by stating out loud that want to remember your dreams and also keep a notepad and pen by your bed, you may find yourself remembering more of them.

  2. Wonderful pic. I must show daughter, she loves wolves.
Last week I dreamt I'd won the lottery. Can you imagine my excitement when a couple of days later I received an email telling me my online Euromillions ticket had won. I signed into the website with pounding heart, prizes often run to over £100 million! I had won £2.20, lol, as the ticket cost £2.00 that was a grand profit of 20p, about $0.32!

    1. Thanks Tracey, I thought he was mysterious looking :) I can only imagine how the combination of your dream and message stating you'd "won," would have set your heart pounding!!

  3. We also watched Rain Man recently; it is truly hard to believe that it is an 80's film. Can you imagine what we would be capable of doing if we could tap into the brain's full potential? I think both good and bad things would come out of that.

That is quite an interesting dream. Perhaps there is something you're searching for. A change in your life. An answer to some question. I truly believe dreams are messages given to us from our sub-conscious mind.

    1. Martha, I have to agree with you - realistically, both good and bad would be the result.

I assume that my brain is working out something - what I'm not sure, but I find dreams so intriguing.

  5. What a profound dream you had, Jane! I have such profound dreams, and totally remember every detail when I wake up. The best ones are the vivid colors that really stand out. I studied how to solve dreams, years ago, but mostly about colors, and their meanings. I used to log them, and solve them...now, I just try to remember the details and the colors. I don't dream like that every night but at least once a week these days.

Love the Leaping Wolf...a spectacular photo. As for the Rain Man; a truly spectacular movie from a very favorite actor that I love, Dustin Hoffman!

    1. Thanks Elisabeth, I keep a dream journal and find the ones I remember in great detail quite stunning - our minds are incredible machines. Every couple of weeks, (sometimes even months go by) and I have truly meaningful one. Rain Man was much better than I'd remembered and Dustin Hoffman truly morphed into character that you almost forget it's him.

  6. I have always thought that dreams help us work through things on our mind.
Even when they are silly dreams.
    Enjoy your the day,

  7. Gorgeous post Jane..i love wolves..and had a wolf guide on a special part of my journey at one time..it was sitting inside my heart and took me deep into a cave to heal what I needed to heal!
Your dream is quite magical and interesting...maybe the liquid you are in that is familiar is like a divine cosmic cell, a healing space or like a spiritual womb..you were birthed from..maybe there are special ingredients for you to recieve in there..maybe go back into the dream..and just let it flow..it might be a power meditation you are meant to work with!
I never saw rain man..but i relate to the brain being a magical space..it has brought me alot of journeys..especially at a time in my life where I had some difficulties with it..and at the same time other areas of my brain were heightened and no longer dormant!
    Wonderful post!

    1. I am fascinated with your wolf guide story - it's a magical one and I believe our subconscious has the power to heal us through guided imagery. I plan to ponder your interpretation further and Thank You for blessing me with it!

  8. What a great picture of a beautiful wolf, sent to remind me it is our leap year day today.

Your dream is very mysterious. Is it a re-occuring dream? Maybe the water represents a rebirth and your looking for a spiritual awakening that you need to let happen. You don't know it but your subconscious is trying to let you in on something very important, that will give you a great peace in your life if you just grab on to it.

I too enjoyed the Rain Man, should watch it again sometime soon.

As always Jane this is a very thought provoking post.....keep them coming.

    1. Hi Lorene, It's not a recurring dream that I remember, but I recognize it as a common theme in my dreams. My subconscious is trying to tell me something...!

  9. Love your dream and I'm so glad I got to read everyone else's comments about it. Sadly I can't claim any experiences with wolves but i did enjoy Farley Mowat's 'Never Cry Wolf'. Yes I agree with those who said it sounds as if you are trying to pull somethig from your unconscious. Ask the Great Spirit for an explanation - she might send another dream with the answer!

    1. Never Cry Wolf is a book I remember from high school lit - I thought it was very good, despite the fact that it was assigned reading! I read People of the Deer two summers ago and loved it. I really like the idea of receiving the answer in another dream very much... :) Thanks for your input.

  11. Maybe you are remembering when you were in the womb?
The cord was wrapped around my neck when I was born, so I was probably in the womb trying to get the darn thing off of me...just so blooming typical, I've been working BEFORE I was born!

    1. Hi Kay, Lol!!! Maybe I am, who knows :) The cord wrapped being around your neck could have been tragic - my sister had to have a c-section for this reason. I'm always so thankful I live now and not 100 years ago.

    2. Dear Jane,
I think I was lucky, one of my memories of childhood is being told that my birth was the worst one for my mother!
Funny thing, I hate to wear necklaces or anything tight around my neck, what do you think...memories of the birth or am I just awkward?

    3. Good question Kay, I wonder if we hold memories from our birth (traumatic ones in particular) that would affect us in life. It's an intriguing thought.

  12. I love dreams that make you think or feel something really special. Two... maybe three times I have dreamed about flying and I was actually depressed when I woke because I realized I couldn't truly fly. It seemed so life like in dream and I was as happy as can be.

    1. I've never flown in a dream (that I remember) - that would be amazing. Have ever had a lucid dream? That's where you know you are dreaming - apparently you can do anything in a lucid dream you choose to - flying is no problem. I've had them, but once I realize I'm in a dream, I spend all my energies trying to wake up - in a panic I might add.
