Captain James Arrudra Henry only learned to read and write two years ago, now he's written his first book "In A Fisherman's Language." More amazing than that... he's 98! Here's the link to a short bio.

What an amazing story, what a happy man. He looks healthy and so vibrant.
ReplyDeleteHe went 95 years never knowing how to read and write. However, he is a very smart man and was successful as a fisherman/captain of 3 ships etc.
Just imagine what he might have done if he was able to read and write all these years.
I love this story.
Just proves, one is never too old to learn.
It's never too late to make a dream come true!
ReplyDeleteA very touching and inspiring story. Just goes to show that it's never too late to fufill some of your dreams. He seems like such a happy person, completely satisfied with his life. Very sweet.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for your comments. I was very touched by this man - he was already very successful, but still knew he was missing something - and he was - the gift of reading and writing. He had all these stories and creativity just under the surface waiting for the opportunity to be expressed. Very moving.
ReplyDeleteWow. It is because of stories like these I want to turn things around. I am a terrible procrastinator. How much of my life I have wasted when there many things I want to do or have an interest in but I never seem to have the time to pursue them. Stories like this is the reason I have been working on grammar books and started playing guitar last year. No more putting off. Just do.
ReplyDeleteWebDebris, At least you're actually doing something to better yourself - I pretty much only think and talk about what I'd like to do... I'm the greatest procrastinator you've ever met!!
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I AM going to learn to knit this winter- I've got some hobbit slippers to craft, lol!
