How 'Bout Them Apples?

Hahaha, I love it when I can find an excuse to use and abuse Steven Tyler! He's such a good sport :)

I read a disturbing news story over the weekend. We are a youth-obsessed culture thanks to Hollyweird. Normal aging is seen as something to be manipulated and even cut away as necessary... Well, we can colour our grey hair, slather ourselves with creams and exercise till the cows come home, but we are still going to get old - and look it!

Apparently now even our apples must look eternally young and fresh. Despite public resistance a BC apple grower is among a group seeking approval to eventually market GMO apples (they're still in the development stage) with flesh that doesn't turn brown when cut. It's unsightly! Personally, I've found lemon juice quite effective for dealing with this travesty. The thought of apples being genetically modified to prevent browning is unsettling to say the least. The fact that we will eventually see these on our shelves whether we want them or not, is infuriating. What's next... perhaps an apple you eat before bed that delays the aging process... hmmm, sounds like Snow White and that was a poison apple!

Season 11

"Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things."

Well, another season of American Idol is underway (can you believe this is the 11th year?) and Steven Tyler is once again in fine form; I love his hilarious, though often cringe-worthy outbursts. He's certainly a breath of fresh air compared to that sour-puss Simon Cowell. He may be crazy, unpredictable and wear ladies blouses, but he's also funny, endearing and seems to genuinely care about the contestants. As I watch the series, I plan to scribble down some of his funniest quips and share them with you when it's all over.

Watching the tryouts is not for the faint of heart.
This one from a few seasons ago cracks me up every time!!

"You have no idea how much it costs to look this cheap."
-Steven Tyler

Greetings! With Scotty McCreery being crowned last night, another season of American Idol has come and gone. I wasn't going to watch this year, (you may recall I blogged about this a couple months ago) but I made the fatal mistake of "just watching the tryouts" and I was hooked again! Turns out it was one of my favorite seasons of all; and I've watched them all, religiously. What I'm mostly going to remember is Steven Tyler's most endearing, kooky self... and his one-liners. I sure hope he's back next year.

I'd be surprised if you were aware that May 26th is officially known as Princess Leia Day. I stumbled across this oddity in my travels and found it quite amusing. I'm not sure just how true it is, but I'm running with it anyways! In honor of the day, here's the famous Jabba The Hutt scene with Princess Leia as slave. And speaking of great one-liners, another video featuring Pizza The Hutt from one of my all-time favorite movies Spaceballs. Too funny!

"Boom shakalaka baby"

Are you enjoying this season's American Idol? Last year I had vowed to anyone who would listen that I would not watch once Simon Cowell was gone. I was certain the 'magic' would be lost with his departure. Instead, the complete opposite has occurred: American Idol is better than ever and a good deal of it's new appeal for me, has to do with Steven Tyler. I had no idea how much I'd love him and his quirky ways. He is quite the character; witty and slightly eccentric, (how many men can wear feather earrings and get away with it :) each episode would not be complete without one of his golden comments. Last night I got to thinking that someone needs to compile all the Tylerisms into a random quote generator as they have done with Charlie Sheen. Here are a few of Steven's (we're on a first name basis now ;) gems from last night's episode:

Boom shakalaka baby.
Have you been watering that suit?
I loved you since the first moment you laid your eyes on me.

And other random quotes from throughout this season:

You define a cool dude in a loose mood.
Don't get too poppy on me.
I love when you go to your ethnic-what-it-is-ness.
Your momma gave you the moxy. Gospel had a baby and named it Jacob Lusk.
