Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.

I have a confession to make: I'm a secret slob. If you saw me on the street, you'd likely think me well put together. My clothes would be clean and stylish, with no buttons missing or threads hanging. If you came over to my home and looked around, you'd find it very neat and well-ordered; a place for everything and everything in it's place. Same with my car.
My purse however, is a completely different story... This is what my wallet looks like all year - and not because we just had Christmas. The only time I ever seem to empty it out is right before a trip.
Yesterday, while I was ruminating out loud about what my New Year's resolution should be (I also happened to be rummaging through my purse at the time), a voice from the peanut gallery (JJ Hubby) piped in with, "Why don't you start by cleaning your wallet..?"
Truthfully, I'm not sure I would even want to resolve to keep my wallet clean - I kind of like it the way it is. If I need a coupon, an old receipt or list - I always know where to look. And granted, sometimes I have to search a little, but often I'm also rewarded by coming across something, maybe a stub from somewhere I've been and had forgotten all about. It's like an archeological dig!
I think instead of a resolution, I'm going to go with the 'Word of the Year' theme I've been seeing on so many blogs lately. A beacon of inspiration for 2013, so to speak. The word I've decided on is:
Do you have a WOTY or Resolution made for 2013?
I think instead of a resolution, I'm going to go with the 'Word of the Year' theme I've been seeing on so many blogs lately. A beacon of inspiration for 2013, so to speak. The word I've decided on is:
ACCEPTANCE
This year, I will try to be more accepting of myself: foibles, vices, weaknesses and all. Actually, so far, I'm finding this SO easy, I'm now wondering if maybe I should also work on accepting the weaknesses of those around me... No, on second thought, I think I'll save that one for 2014, lol!
Do you have a WOTY or Resolution made for 2013?
Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your resolution. I personally have never had one for any year....
Happy New Year and blessings in 2013 :)
DeleteNo resolutions for me Jane,I'd never stick to them. I like to keep my standards nice and low - less pressure.I do occasionally think about cleaning up my language but I enjoy cussin' far to much. (My wallet is pristine - it's everything else I need to fix!) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLol!! I like your philosophy :) If the truth be known, I could stand to clean up my language too! Happy New Year, Sulky!!
Deleteif you're cleaning up the wallet, I will be a good person and accept those credit cards :) I am ever so nice :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, dear Jane!
I hope you won't be surprised to learn that there might not be much room left on those cards, Dezzy... lol!!
Delete"Kindness", I think that will be a good focus word for this year.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year, dear Jane! Have you seen The HObbit movie yet, I always think of you visiting New Zealand! xx
And by the way, I used to call my purse or handbag, a "pocketbook", no one does now, I notice, so I had to stop. I am afraid folks looked at me as if I said I was waiting for a carriage!
Hi Kay, I love the word 'kindness' as a WOTY. The world can never have too much.
DeleteI have indeed seen The Hobbit (3x's... so far, lol!) Loved it and would happily see it again.
I guess the term pocketbook is a bit antiqued, but it suits you my dear and I mean that in all 'kindness' :)
I think Jane meant to say that she looks forward to a new year for a new start for old "Hobbits".
ReplyDelete...Now as far as her "George Constanza" (Seinfeld) wallet, UGG!! she could donate the contents to a museum cause it's that old!
Haha, JJ Hubby! Another reason I won't clean my wallet is because I'm stubborn - but I'm guessing this comes as no surprise to you... lol!!
Delete"...an archeological dig..." Hahaha...I love that! And I love the word 'acceptance'. Why go any further than that? I don't have any resolutions this year. I've stopped making them. What will be, will be...and all that stuff there... :) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha, hehe! I'm glad you caught that one :)
DeleteI generally don't make resolutions either - they are pretty difficult to keep - but choosing a WOTY caught my interest this year for some reason.
My word for the year is gratitude.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Gratitude is a fabulous word and mindset for 2013 :) Happy New Year to you as well, Dana!
DeleteSeriously, that's not your wallet for real, is it? Holy moly!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to everyone at your house!
Lol, it is indeedy, Debra! I need to plan a trip - that's the only way it'll ever get cleaned out :)
DeleteHappy New Year to you and yours as well, Debra!
DeleteHa ha! Seeing your wallet reminded me of a woman i taught with. I used to take my student teachers to her room to show them what a teacher's desk shoulode look like. (Like my house and car my desk was always buried in papers, books etc.) I spent years trying to figure out how she managed to keep everything so tidy & organized. Then one day I opened the closet in her room. Ha ha!! Like your wallet but wayyy bigger. Anyway Happy New Year Jane! Wishing you the best in 2013!
ReplyDeleteHi Francie, that's a hilarious story! I did the exact same thing for years when I lived at home - threw everything in the closet and shut the doors :) My closets are very clean now though, btw!
Deletehave a great new year
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam! Happy New Year to you :)
DeleteHappy New Year!!! I should make a resolution to stop procrastinating, but I'm procrastinating on coming up with my resolution list. Have a wonderful year!!!
ReplyDeleteHehe, I hear you! Blessings in 2013 :)
DeleteI don't see anything wrong with your wallet....lol My WOTY has become "Organize" better/more.
ReplyDeleteMy boxes, file folders and three ring binders of recipes will be gone through by the time summer is here, I promise. If only you could see the big task I have to get this accomplished!
I have every piece of paper that contains a recipe, newspaper clipping etc. that I've had for eons. I'm doing menu's for each day and after I have 8 weeks worth, plan to rotate the weeks. Once in awhile I will try out 1 new recipe that I feel is worthy!
This must be done, because my children when they come here, should I pass on would be astounded as to how much stuff to do with cooking, baking and food I've managed to squirrel away over the years.
Oh and "Happy New Year" Jane and JJ's hubby. May this be the year of health, wealth and new adventures!
DeleteOrganize is a great word and believe it or not, I love to organize and streamline my house on a continual basis throughout the year. Just not my purse, lol!! I know you'll feel so pleased with yourself once you get all of your recipes/newspaper clippings etc. organized. I did this a few years ago, but could stand to do it again. Keeping up is a full-time task it seems. Good luck!
DeleteHappy New Year to you and yours as well!
Jane, I have completely accepted I am not organized at all. I can never find anything and never put things in the same place as far back as the night when I could not find my binky. I have accepted that... Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteLol, you are so cute :) Thanks Ana, Happy New Year to you as well :)
Deletelol My philosophy is if it's not in my purse I'll never find it. lol
ReplyDeleteSo I have everything in there including the kitchen sink. I lug around a heavy purse and my husband says what r u doing?
So I say ok and buy myself a small purse not to do this. Then I carry two. One light one heavy.lol
Nut case?
I don't think so. People go into all my cupboards etc and I never find anything. My purse is sacred. Go in there, cross the boundary, and your life is blitz. lol I have absolute control there....sometimes lol
Finally, a woman after my own heart, lol!! I couldn't agree more :)
DeleteHAPPY NEW YEAR JANE to you and your family :)
ReplyDeleteThank you & a Happy New Year and many blessings in 2013 :)
DeleteThat's your wallet? Wow! I think you're great to find anything in there! LOL! I wish you all the best for the New Year ;o) For me, it's all about letting go and letting no negativity in! Big Hugs ;o)
ReplyDeleteHehe, it's all in there... now I just need to find it, lol!!
DeleteYes! Letting go and allowing no negativity is a wonderful philosophy -- any year! Happy New Year!
Wallet=archives!! Everything in one place--not a bad idea!! The purse must get quite heavy though!! Happy New Year Jane and to JJ Hubby, and the rest of your family too! May the year be filled with happiness, fun, good health, and wonderful blog posts!!
ReplyDeleteHi Dianne, Yes - I suspect my purse would be considered heavy, but I guess I'm so used to it, I don't even notice anymore... lol!!
DeleteThank you :) A Happy New Year to you and your family as well!
Happy New Year, Jane.
ReplyDeleteI decided to make some resolutions this year, as I haven't done so in years. I will let you know how I get on! I'm now thinking the Word of the Year might have been a better way to go.
I look forward to what you may come up with Tracey :) WOTY is new to me. Happy New Year!
DeleteHappy new year to you!!! I am the exact same way with my wallet. I swear - I can never find my drivers license. Ever. I must make cashiers insane.
ReplyDeleteI do have some resolutions...and because of you now, a word of the year - healing. Yep.
Lol!! Glad to hear I'm not alone in my madness :) Thankfully, I do (somehow) manage to keep my cards in their respective spots!
DeleteI'm happy to think I've been an inspiration! Healing is a fabulous WOTY :)
Oh Jane you are funny! Good luck with your resolution! I quite making them years ago. My wallet is also neat, it's my desk that has gotten out of control!
ReplyDeleteLol, so far, 2013's been a breeze! Of course it's probably too early to tell, lol!! Paperwork is a challenge for everyone I think.
DeleteHi Jane! I actually found your blog via Cheryl, one of your followers! Let me tell you that as a woman I understand the dilemma of the ever messy wallet. I love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachael! Thanks for stopping by and Welcome :) I'm thankful for the support - I'd like to think that we're all in this together, lol!!
DeleteHi Jane! I followed you here! LOL! nice Blog! The wallet thing- that is my whole purse, the sad part, I clean it out at least 2 times a week to make it lighter but some how it always seems heavier! LOL
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about WOTY and Resolution thing and keep coming up with one word. Happy. So I guess my word is Happy and my resolution for 2013 is to be Happy!
Alice ;~)
Hi Alice :) Glad you found your way over and Welcome!!
DeleteI totally hear you - keeping a lid on the paperwork is a full-time job... that's why I've given up trying, lol!! I just take everything with me - it's there (somewhere!) if I need it :)
Happy is a wonderful WOTY! Can't get much better than Happy, thanks for sharing :)
