If my son reads this blog (which I know he doesn't), he'll likely recognize the above pic he forwarded to me at least six months ago!
Our boomerang child, who was 27 in October, finally moved out again this past Friday (his sister left over 5 years ago!) for what we have adamantly stated is The. Very. Last. Time. So resolved are we in fact, that in a few weeks time, he'll likely think he's at the wrong house should he happen by... it's the domino effect - 4 rooms are getting shuffled in all our excitement. Just try to find your old room David, lol!
I know we're not alone - books have been written on the subject.
Haha, shouldn't they at least attempt to hide their delight?
This is us right now :)
The hard part isn't necessarily getting them out of the house - it's keeping them out!
Ha! But will you miss him really? I left home when I was 18 and when I went back for a visit a week later I was expecting them all to fall at my feet begging me to return to the fold. But no, the only thing they wanted to know was where I'd hidden the iron! Charming!
ReplyDeleteI already missed him - the first three or four times... haha!
DeleteThis is so funny! But honestly these 'kids' do have a rougher time now. There are so many social demands we didn't have, like Iphones, computers, designer stuff. I grew up in the Midwest and we were all poor, so nobody knew the difference! My first job paid crap and my roommate and I would hit happy hour and buy one drink and the free hors d'oeuvres were our dinner. I love your response, "I already missed him - the first three or four times" LOL! Awww, you know you'll let him move back if he needs to!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's an expensive world out there - but our children, like ourselves, have to learn to differentiate between wants and needs. Being industrious (like you obviously were :) also helps.
DeleteWell, one thing that can be said, is that your son must be very happy with his home and his parents, because if he weren't he wouldn't keep moving back home!! And that's a wonderful testament to you and his dad.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dianne, I truly appreciate your kind words.
DeleteHI JANE - oh my, the empty nest - we have been such and then not and then such and then not and twice they arrived with kids in tow, !!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow, as we are down sizing and preparing to move there truly is NO room in the nest except for us. Bittersweet for sure, well, at least I don't have to say "no" because they know already there is no more rorm at the inn!!!
Love Gail
peace.....
Hi Gail, I'm glad to hear we're not alone :) I think you've hit on the perfect solution - downsizing, lol!!
DeleteHahahaha...this is hilarious! Yes, it's keeping them out that is tough. My kids are not quite old enough for me to put the heavy boots on and aim it for their butts, but I'm looking forward to an empty nest when it comes. My older daughter who is only 20 is living on her own while studying and working at the same time. She's so focused, so driven and so mature that I don't think she'll be coming back. And all this at such a young age; I'm proud of her. The younger one is only 15, so I'm not sure what will happen. But I hope she turns out to be like her sister because I have no problem with an empty nest! I told my husband that we should downsize when the nest is empty, so there's no room for any boomerangs!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the empty nest, and the freedom the two of you have. Party time!
I truly hope your youngest is as driven and independent as your eldest. I find (generally speaking) that girls are more apt to find a way stay on their own once they've made the move. Boys tend to come and go more.
DeleteI would try moving away without leaving a forwarding address.
ReplyDeleteLol, very tempting :)
DeleteOh my how I can relate to your post.
ReplyDeleteEldest son moved out at age of 27, youngest moved out 6 times and returned 6 times :)Now both married, so that's a blessing :)
Glad to know there's an end in sight - we just need to get him married off, lol!!
Deletehahaha...I turned my oldest boy's room into a little girls room for this very reason. hahaha... Also, I set my boy's ring tone on my phone to a special recognizable ring. This is so I can practice saying "no" before I answer.
ReplyDeleteThat's our plan - my husband is moving his home office into David's old room and turning the room he's now using into a music room. There'll simply be no room at the inn... !!
DeleteBecause I've been busy this week I'm a little behind in my blog reading. Consequently I read your latest one first. Pretty funny when you read them in that order , Jane! Nudge, wink! :)
ReplyDeleteVery true :) Hmmm I'm thinking third time's a charm!
DeleteGreat to see you blogging again Jane (I can talk lol) !
ReplyDeleteI can't say I missed our children for long when they moved out and none of ours moved back - only one son's circumstances would have allowed that and he is far too independent to move back.
Problem is if you marry David off, he might move back in with his wife as well ;)
Enjoy the serenity :)
