Did you survive last night's celebrations?!!
As is our custom, we spent a quiet night at home, ate too many chocolates,
watched a movie (the new Planet of the Apes) and were in bed before midnight!
New Year's day is my absolute favorite day of the year. It holds such promise!
"We will open the book. It's pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."
This is a shining moment, bursting with possibility!
I don't know about you, but right now,
at the dawn of this New Year,
my future's so bright...
... I gotta wear shades!!
Curiosity,
positivity,
open-mindedness,
balanced with critical-thinking...
are all qualities I will continue to strive for in my life in 2012 and beyond.
I truly believe that the mind-set and spirit we cultivate in ourselves,
blesses not only us, but everyone we come into contact with.
Mind is the Master power that molds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:
—He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking-glass.

Do you also love the clean slate a New Year brings?
Have you made any resolutions you'd care to share?
Happy new year! Did you like the Planet of the Apes movie?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy blogging in 2012!
This is a wonderful post and the images are lovely too. For me, there can never be any clean slates - some things are forever and cannot be wiped away - so as I move in to 2012 I take with me all that is good and all that is not so good too - I am a blend of all these truths and they all have purpose and meaning and deserve my attention. So no, I haven't made any resolutions - only a deeper surrender and respect for what is truth.

peace......
Happy New Year! I also love the blank slate the first day of a New Year brings with it. It's a chance to start all over again, 365 days of new opportunities to be discovered. No resolutions for this year; just the promise to myself that I'll do the best I can in every area of my life.
ReplyDeleteWise words...and attitude. Love the frog:) I've seen many clean slates and have learned not to plan too much..I always make God laugh:) But still....on to new adventures!
ReplyDeleteWell, THIS is an upbeat New Year's post -- love it! Have a great 2012!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Jane! I don't think I see New Year's as a blank slate per se as I am always connected to all that has gone on in the past. But I do see the day as one to reflect on the year gone by and to make plans for the new year. As I get older, I am more mindful of how quickly time passes and that there are things I want to do and had better get at them!
ReplyDeletewhiteangel, Thank you and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteKay, Loved it and I'm looking forward to the next one. Have you seen it and if so, what did you think?
Tracy, Thanks, I am going to try to keep my blogging 'Five Commandments' in mind in 2012 :)
Gail, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts - and so beautifully expressed :)
Martha, I agree - I feel re-energized when a new year begins.
Vicki, So true - the plans of mice (& frogs :) and men!
Debra, Thanks - Seeing as it's 2012, I figure we'd all better make this a good one..!
Dianne, Really great points - time does slip by so quickly, faster and faster every year it seems - and we all best be getting at those things we want to do. My mother-in-law who's 87 has been visiting with us for the past 2 weeks. She's mentioned a few times how very hard she finds it to be so frail and not able to do the things she used to, even something most of us take for granted (& put off most of the time) like going for a walk.
Happy New Year! What a beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your thoughts on this time of year.
I haven't made a list of resolutions per se, my focus this year is Be Kind and to continue loving the imperfect me. But that's a life long thing so it doesn't count;p
Lael, I think your goals are admirable ones - charity begins at home as they say and we can't truly love others until we love and accept ourselves :)
ReplyDeleteWith the New Year dawning before us fresh and clean, it is a new opportunity to do better with ourselves and our fellow man.....its a gift, a God given chance to walk through this new door of 2012 with renewed hope for the future.
ReplyDeleteLearn from our old mistakes in the year gone by, don't look back, just keep looking forward in this our life's journey.
Happy New Year To All!!
