'Food' For Thought...

Some of the foods corn (or it's derivatives) may be found in:

cold cuts
cream
ice cream
yogurt
canned soup
processed cheese
nuts
candy
anything baked or fried
raisins
puddings
condiments

Not only in America - it's the same all over the world. Skip ahead 3:10 - 5:00

Have a great day, lol!

  1. I feel very naive after watching this! It's something I never really thought about.Very interesting, and it's true - some derivative of corn seems to be in everything! It's a corny world.

    1. I'd like to say that ignorance is bliss, but I think this is an example of something we all need to be aware of. It's causing untold damage. It IS a corny world, including US, lol!!

  2. The complete lack of concern about what we're eating and where it's from really worries me. It won't be many more generations until no one can cook anything from scratch anymore and we will become reliant on these companies for our food. Here in Australia we are importing more and more of our food including some vegetables which are imported from China - where they are grown in human excrement. As well as not knowing how to cook food, we won't even know how to grow it. Okay, getting off my soap box now :)

    1. Annie, I so agree with you on every point. We are all way to reliant on these companies and I'm not sure how we could even begin to turn the tide now. Supporting local farmer's markets is one step in the right direction. It does seem that cooking from scratch is happening less and less, judging by the amount of pre-packaged food on the shelves in the grocery stores! It's unthinkable that vegetables which are grown in human excrement are even imported. Shocking and disgusting.

  3. Oh sure, make me read and watch this corny post as I'm drinking my smoothie! Makes me want to never eat again:) Ok, so I'm being a little extreme. Gives me an idea though, email coming..

    1. I hope it didn't spoil your breakfast, lol! Actually, even though I have watched these documentaries before, it really bothered me today. It's kind of depressing when you consider what the next generations will be eating.

  4. Great video, Jane! There are so many things we don't know about the food we eat. Some of it is pretty scary, too. I don't think we'll see the ill effects of this right away. The future generations will pay a price for our all this.

    1. It is scary and I also fear for future generations. There may be few good choices even left to make.

  5. I feel totally "ill" now. I'll NEVER look at food the same way again - especially Beef! Maybe ole "Euell Gibbons" had the right idea after all. Gotta go...(and make myself throw-up)

  7. I knew corn was in a lot, but I had no idea how much. All those chemical-like names who knew they were corn derivatives! As for the beef ending, it brought back too many memories of "Fast Food Nation". It might be a bit before I dig any beef out of the freezer. And as for tonight's chicken - I know it's got issues too, but at least it wasn't in the video.

    1. These companies are very sneaky and obviously have no conscience. Makes you wonder what these scientist's and their families eat. I've also watched Fast Food Nation and it's pretty scary.

  9. This is a very educational clip. I knew about the villian "CORN" for a long time, but this clip is a good one to help us remember, as being human we do forget about the things that can be harmful to our health.

What do they feed pigs to fatten them up for market?.........CORN.

  10. Wow! Strong message. Thanks jane. Also wanted to tell you the soup was delicious. I forgot to put the coconut milk in (even after it took me forever to find it in the store) but as it was optional I didn't worry. I did add spinach and I have to tell you I loved it and my house smelled so nice too!

    1. Francie, I am thrilled that you tried out my soup - and that it was a hit :) I've never thought of adding spinach - I'll give it a try next time.

  11. I saw the whole documentary on PBS, it's called Food Inc. I grew up on a real farm before they started to become factory farms. I buy 90% of my food from a local food co-op and try to buy pasture raised beef, milk, butter etc. This film is just the tip of the iceberg. Thank you for posting this Jane!

    1. I saw that one as well - VERY interesting. Sounds like you are making some very wise choices about the foods you choose to consume. It's terrifying to consider there may come a time when we don't have any choices left to make... that's what these companies want - complete domination of the market.

  12. This is disturbing. I knew it was in a lot of things. My husband is on a gluten free diet so we have to be very aware of what is in the foods that we buy...

    1. Hi Kay, It seems to be getting harder and harder to find out what's actually in our food... It must be an extra-challenge for your family.

  13. Interesting video, will have to look on the back of some of those products to see if there are any ingredient that shouldn't be there...

  14. Interesting information on corn, and the many products that is used in. I do use corn products, such as corn starch, corn meal, corn syrup in baking, and I do like corn oil as well, but what I am totally against is all the other by-products used in processed foods. Corn is the cheapest foods that to feed live-stock, and chickens with, but mixing that with dangerous by-products to make them grow and get fatter is the scary part.

BTW-Jane, I finally went to the doctor this morning and have to take antibiotic for my throat infection now. Will rest up for the weekend, and hope to feel better for next week! (still coughing too, but not as bad)

    1. Hi Elisabeth, I think we're sliding down a very slippery slope when we start feeding it to fish - seems unnatural. Just the fact that food is now developed in a lab is frightening... !

Glad to hear you're now on medication - sometimes we simply have to go that route. Take care and I trust you'll be feeling much better very soon :)

  16. And now there's a story that corn insecticides are responsible for killing bees. I swear there's nothing corn is not messing with. And Monsanto.

    1. Hi Tatiana, This was very interesting... why am I not surprised? Monsanto is a very powerful and scary organization - they have no conscience and would patent the very air we breathe if they could.
