"Pretty Bird!"

My love of birds grows with each passing year. I suppose I've partially inherited this interest through my mother's own enthusiastic appreciation. In fact, my husband need only (in falsetto ;) say "Pretty Bird," and we all know who he is referring to!

I was quite enchanted by this smart little bird in the news this morning. After an illustrious 60 year career, Sir David Attenborough (of BBC's Life Series) has chosen watching the Vogelkop Bowerbird woo a mate as his most enduring memory. That's quite the endorsement, I'd say.

The bird, known as the Barry White of the bird world, resides in the mountains of Western New Guinea, and the male of the species is famed for creating intricate flower displays to attract females.

  4. I found this clip so sweet and enchanting. He surely goes to a lot of preparation to get "the right" bird.

I'm glad your back and posting from time to time.

  6. Oh my goodnes, I loved this! How sweet. I laughed with the sprouting fungus part; that was hilarious! Especially when the male bird was cleaning it up; such a tidy, hard working little fella, and so eager to find himself the right girl. I share your love of birds, and like you, I've partially inherited that interest from my mom, who also adores them.
