Happy New Year Everyone!

Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.

I have a confession to make: I'm a secret slob. If you saw me on the street, you'd likely think me well put together. My clothes would be clean and stylish, with no buttons missing or threads hanging. If you came over to my home and looked around, you'd find it very neat and well-ordered; a place for everything and everything in it's place. Same with my car.

My purse however, is a completely different story... This is what my wallet looks like all year - and not because we just had Christmas. The only time I ever seem to empty it out is right before a trip.

Yesterday, while I was ruminating out loud about what my New Year's resolution should be (I also happened to be rummaging through my purse at the time), a voice from the peanut gallery (JJ Hubby) piped in with, "Why don't you start by cleaning your wallet..?"

Truthfully, I'm not sure I would even want to resolve to keep my wallet clean - I kind of like it the way it is. If I need a coupon, an old receipt or list - I always know where to look. And granted, sometimes I have to search a little, but often I'm also rewarded by coming across something, maybe a stub from somewhere I've been and had forgotten all about. It's like an archeological dig!

I think instead of a resolution, I'm going to go with the 'Word of the Year' theme I've been seeing on so many blogs lately. A beacon of inspiration for 2013, so to speak. The word I've decided on is:

ACCEPTANCE

This year, I will try to be more accepting of myself: foibles, vices, weaknesses and all. Actually, so far, I'm finding this SO easy, I'm now wondering if maybe I should also work on accepting the weaknesses of those around me... No, on second thought, I think I'll save that one for 2014, lol!

Do you have a WOTY or Resolution made for 2013?

Good luck with your resolution. I personally have never had one for any year....

  2. No resolutions for me Jane,I'd never stick to them. I like to keep my standards nice and low - less pressure.I do occasionally think about cleaning up my language but I enjoy cussin' far to much. (My wallet is pristine - it's everything else I need to fix!) Happy New Year!

  4. "Kindness", I think that will be a good focus word for this year.
Happy new year, dear Jane! Have you seen The HObbit movie yet, I always think of you visiting New Zealand! xx
And by the way, I used to call my purse or handbag, a "pocketbook", no one does now, I notice, so I had to stop. I am afraid folks looked at me as if I said I was waiting for a carriage!

    1. Hi Kay, I love the word 'kindness' as a WOTY. The world can never have too much.

I have indeed seen The Hobbit (3x's... so far, lol!) Loved it and would happily see it again.

I guess the term pocketbook is a bit antiqued, but it suits you my dear and I mean that in all 'kindness' :)

  5. I think Jane meant to say that she looks forward to a new year for a new start for old "Hobbits".
...Now as far as her "George Constanza" (Seinfeld) wallet, UGG!! she could donate the contents to a museum cause it's that old!

    1. Haha, JJ Hubby! Another reason I won't clean my wallet is because I'm stubborn - but I'm guessing this comes as no surprise to you... lol!!

  6. "...an archeological dig..." Hahaha...I love that! And I love the word 'acceptance'. Why go any further than that? I don't have any resolutions this year. I've stopped making them. What will be, will be...and all that stuff there... :) Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Martha, hehe! I'm glad you caught that one :)

I generally don't make resolutions either - they are pretty difficult to keep - but choosing a WOTY caught my interest this year for some reason.

  9. Ha ha! Seeing your wallet reminded me of a woman i taught with. I used to take my student teachers to her room to show them what a teacher's desk shoulode look like. (Like my house and car my desk was always buried in papers, books etc.) I spent years trying to figure out how she managed to keep everything so tidy & organized. Then one day I opened the closet in her room. Ha ha!! Like your wallet but wayyy bigger. Anyway Happy New Year Jane! Wishing you the best in 2013!

    1. Hi Francie, that's a hilarious story! I did the exact same thing for years when I lived at home - threw everything in the closet and shut the doors :) My closets are very clean now though, btw!

  11. I don't see anything wrong with your wallet....lol My WOTY has become "Organize" better/more.

My boxes, file folders and three ring binders of recipes will be gone through by the time summer is here, I promise. If only you could see the big task I have to get this accomplished!
I have every piece of paper that contains a recipe, newspaper clipping etc. that I've had for eons. I'm doing menu's for each day and after I have 8 weeks worth, plan to rotate the weeks. Once in awhile I will try out 1 new recipe that I feel is worthy!

This must be done, because my children when they come here, should I pass on would be astounded as to how much stuff to do with cooking, baking and food I've managed to squirrel away over the years.

    2. Organize is a great word and believe it or not, I love to organize and streamline my house on a continual basis throughout the year. Just not my purse, lol!! I know you'll feel so pleased with yourself once you get all of your recipes/newspaper clippings etc. organized. I did this a few years ago, but could stand to do it again. Keeping up is a full-time task it seems. Good luck!

Happy New Year to you and yours as well!

  12. Jane, I have completely accepted I am not organized at all. I can never find anything and never put things in the same place as far back as the night when I could not find my binky. I have accepted that... Happy new year!

  13. lol My philosophy is if it's not in my purse I'll never find it. lol
So I have everything in there including the kitchen sink. I lug around a heavy purse and my husband says what r u doing?
So I say ok and buy myself a small purse not to do this. Then I carry two. One light one heavy.lol
    Nut case?
I don't think so. People go into all my cupboards etc and I never find anything. My purse is sacred. Go in there, cross the boundary, and your life is blitz. lol I have absolute control there....sometimes lol
