Weird Homes

I have been meaning to profile another Weird Home for a while now,
and the timing for this one couldn't be more perfect!

If you had the funds, how would you furnish your 'Weird Home'?
What is your secret (or not so secret ;) passion?

Have a great weekend everyone!

* A quick update: I saw The Hobbit this evening :)
I know I said I was going to wait, but I'm glad I didn't.
We already had our tickets, went an hour ahead - and
I was even able to get my coveted back row seating.

Incredible, amazing, visually stunning!!!
Go as soon as you possibly can... I'm going again on Friday :D

  2. That is so cool! What an amazing house.

I would love to have a small home surrounded by a really cool botanical theme. My favourite type would be cacti and succulent plants; kind of a desert look. And the weirder the plants, the better. But this would be quite normal.

For a stranger theme, I'd love a medieval/fantasy look with castles, dragons, knights, wizards, etc. That would be out of this world!

    1. I really loved the look of all the homes in Boulder City, Nevada. It was so different, it was almost alien-looking - but very attractive.

A medieval-theme would also be cool. I've always felt like I must have lived in a castle in a previous life - I've had some very strange memories of this try to surface over the years...

    1. General contractors should start building homes on this theme - they'd sell!

  7. What's weird is that there are lots of cottages like this in England! Stone walls, tiled roof - yep. Not with Tolkien stuff in though. Funnily enough I've just been reading an interview with a great-great nephew of his today. And my English Lit teacher at school was taught by Tolkien at university. Hmm, I seem to have strayed off topic here, so - I've always been fascinated by lighthouses so maybe I'd have one of those.

    1. Very interesting Julie. I'd love to have had a chat with your English Lit teacher :) I've always liked lighthouses as well - but then again, I crave solitude, so they would be perfect.

  8. We live in a smaller bungalow and often we refer to our home as "The Shire".

However, we don't have any Hobbit type things in it. Its just a modern day bungalow in the city.

    1. I like that - you need to get a sign made up for the front of your house :)

    1. I actually thought of you as I drove towards South Common, wondering if you'd already seen it :) I live in the west end, but I often watch movies on the South Common screen instead.

  10. Did you see it in 3D, Jane? The reviewer at CTV said it was bbetter to not see the 3D just because the images were so amazing they took away from the story!! Must be quite the movie :)

    1. Yes, I saw the 3D version Interesting. After about 1/2 hour you don't even notice that you're watching in 3D - but it probably takes that long to adjust.

I didn't know we had a choice actually, I thought 3D was it... I wonder if it would be worth seeing it on a regular screen, I'll have to check it out as I wouldn't mind seeing the difference.

  12. My idea home is probably not possible nor affordable and probably hard to explain. I always wanted a home that was partial underground and maybe a third of it out in the open. This is to help keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Sort of built into a hill. The front would be all glass from top to bottom as well as the exposed ceiling. I want to be able to look up at night at the stars. The first floor would mostly be just the living room. A HUGE living room. The second floor would be u shaped. The master bedroom and one of the guest bedrooms would have windows, the rest would be underground. The kitchen, closets, study, and all other rooms would be underground too on the first floor. Probably sounds weird to most but that is my ideal home.

    1. I love it!!! It sounds amazing - especially the front being all glass for stargazing. You've obviously given this one quite a bit of thought over the years. Thanks for sharing :)
